How can data already collected by cities help achieve cleaner air and improve public transport? This is the question that the STiDS-Mi project seeks to answer, which connects Miskolc to the data space already shared by Szeged and Timișoara. Existing data, shared opportunities
During the operation of cities, a vast amount of data is generated that can serve as a useful foundation for local decision-making. The real opportunity lies in making this data interconnected, analyzable, and accessible to other cities under appropriate access rules.
The STiDS-Mi project, a new pilot under the DS4SSCC program, builds on this concept: it connects Miskolc's air quality and public transportation data sources to the data space already functioning between Szeged and Timișoara. The goal is for participating cities to support their own planning and decision-making processes by drawing on existing infrastructure and each other's experiences.
Air quality data for predicting smog situations
In Miskolc, a network of 60 sensors is currently collecting air quality data. As part of the project, this existing data will be utilized for the local adaptation of a predictive model developed in Timișoara.
The development aims to assist in forecasting air quality, thereby supporting the city's preparedness for periods of poor air quality. Furthermore, the collaboration provides an opportunity to examine how a solution developed in one city can be applied under different local conditions.
Data sharing for public transport planning
The other focus area of the project is mobility. Utilizing Miskolc's timetable and passenger count data by adapting the model already built in Szeged can provide valuable insights for public transport planning.
Inter-city collaboration across borders
With Miskolc joining, the shared data space expands to three cities. STiDS-Mi examines how existing infrastructures and services can be utilized in other cities across national borders, while ensuring controlled access to the data.
Clarity Consulting contributes to the project through consortium management and implementation support. The emphasis in this collaboration is on the practical application of already available data and solutions: exploring how data collected in cities can become useful tools for local decision-making.
