A major milestone has been reached for the domestic electricity system: on October 5, 2026, MAVIR successfully connected to the MARI platform as well, completing the accession process that began on October 1. With this, Hungary has joined the operation of the MARI and PICASSO European balancing energy platforms.
What does this mean in practice? In the electricity system, production and consumption must be kept in continuous balance. The two platforms enable the cross-border exchange of the balancing energy required for this: PICASSO is linked to automatic (aFRR), while MARI is linked to manually activated frequency restoration reserves (mFRR).
The connection was preceded by a five-year development process, during which several of MAVIR's IT systems were upgraded. Implementation was built on close cooperation between the transmission system operator and market participants.
The Clarity team contributed to ensuring that the go-live took place within a regulated and controlled IT operational framework.
We are proud that through our professional work we could be part of this project of great significance for the domestic electricity system. Congratulations to the teams of MAVIR and the partners involved in the implementation!
